Moakii wasn't born in a boardroom; it was forged out of necessity right here in the Carolinas. It’s the result of one simple truth: getting out on the water shouldn't feel like work.

We are the Founders: Sierra & "Kan".

​

For years, we lived the classic East Coast grind. Sierra was immersed in high-pressure finance in Charlotte, and Kan was designing complex logistics systems that rarely saw the light of day. We loved the water, but weekends were spent wrestling bulky gear onto our cars, battling traffic to the nearest ramp, and spending more time inflating than paddling. We were chasing the peaceful idea of stand-up paddling, but the reality was friction.

 

The Hawaiian Catalyst: Courage and Movement

 

In 2023, we finally took a real break—a reset trip to Maui and Kauai. It was there, gliding across a glassy bay, that everything shifted. We heard the ocean, felt the sun, and understood the true meaning of the paddleboard experience: freedom, connection, and balance.

We learned the phrase Moa-Ki'i:

• Moa: Movement and courage.

• Ki'i: Symbol and spirit.

We realized the core issue wasn't the desire to paddle; it was the difficulty. The gear we saw back home was either hyper-technical and expensive, or cheap, unstable, and lacking any soul.

 

We looked at each other on that quiet Hawaiian morning and asked: "Why can't we bring the simple, courageous spirit of the islands back home to the lakes and rivers of North Carolina? Why can't we make Paradise Portable?"

 

Our Mission: Simplicity, Quality, and Soul.

 

We sold the suit-and-tie life, cashed in our own savings, and founded Moakii on the shores of Lake Norman. We dedicated ourselves to designing a board that eliminates the friction point-by-point.
